I talked about leaving Germany and moving to Spain yesterday. This is a huge step for all of us - although Frank and I always shared the dream of “direction: south”… owning a nice (more or less) little Finca in Southern Europe, ideally Mallorca, Spain.

We have contacted several estate agents during the last months, but didn’t find the “dream home” so far.
A few days ago we recieved a special offer for a Finca / cottage in Alaro (Mallorca, Spain): The dream home. The Finca offers 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one en suite), 2 large living rooms, an American kitchen, 100 m² terraces, a huge pool, a well, several parking places, etc. on a 6,000 m² property:

That’s exactly what we’ve been dreaming of. The only thing we’d need to change is: The little beauty comes ready-furnished. This is unusual for us Germans. We already have LOTS (in other words: too much) of furniture on our own. The agent says it’s a negotiable matter.

That’s the PROs… there are also a few other things on my mind:

Leaving friends and family… this will be hard. Of course, the new home offers lots of space for visitors - and all our friends are already planning their vacations at our new home busily.

My parents also reacted much cooler than I did. I was so scared to tell them about our plans and even more surprised by their reaction. I was told this is the best thing that could happen to them. Actually we meet once or twice a month for a day. When moving they are planning 12 vacation trips a year, coming to Mallorca once a month for a week. Both are looking forward to 12 yearly vacations, plus seeing us for an extended time. *huh*

In addition of leaving our family and friends we’ ll have to sell everything we own here to let this dream come true… leave our current home behind, sell the apartment in Neuss, give away our fun car - the beloved Mini Cooper Convertible *sigh* to supplement our seed money. *sad*

Did I hear the word “job” coming to your mind? Frank and I are both self-employed, not location-dependent. We can do our jobs from whereever we are. We’re also searching for a little shop to let this other dream come true. *bubble*

So, what do you think, peeps?

Would this be a huge step for you? Did you ever move to another country (the distance is comparable to moving across 3 states for the US citizens)? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
Thanks for sharing in advance! *coffee* *cake*

HEADS - Direction

Frank and I share a dream… “Direction: South”. We dream of a little cottage, ideally a “Finca” in Spain. We wish for a nice little place in the sun. Here are some offers we got during the last week:

My favorite is the little stone cottage. Yes, it will offer enough room for visitors from Blogland. ;-)

Happy Tuesday, HoTties!

Coffee And Cake

HEADS - Wonder *OR* TAILS - Wander[other HOTties | previous HOTs]

My furry friend Jersey, the diva who´s generously sharing her home with us, has chosen “wonder” - so I´ll go for “wander“.
We´ve spent the morning preparing a huge picnic for all HoTties (YAY! Sometimes the time difference is a good thing). Of course we want to be well-equipped when we´ll be taking you out to some of our favorite places.

Just in case you´re wondering where we´ll all be wandering:

Happy Hiking, HoTties! Coffee anybody? And now…

Lisa: Look at the “wonders” of the computer age now.
Homer: Wonders Lisa? Or blunders?
Lisa: I think that was implied by what I said.
Homer: Implied… Or implode?
