315-365: St. Martinstag

11-11-09 | Snapped by Sanni | Filed under Kindergarten, St Martin |

[Photo was taken at Luis' Kindergarten, right before the lantern procession in honor of St. Martin started.]

St. Martin’s Day is celebrated in the evening of November 11th in Germany.

If my little wacky little brain doesn’t play tricks on me, Belgium (the dutch-speaking Flanders), some parts of the Netherlands and Austria do also celebrate tonight. on the procession where kids hold paper laterns and sing songs about St. Martin. A man dressed as St. Martin 8in our case: a 7 y.o. boy) rides on a horse in front of the procession.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month we also joined our friends celebrating Remembrance Day and observed a moment of silence… as we reflected on what we have got and remembered those who sacrified themselves. For our freedom.

The family looks wonderful, and I see that Frank is home - yippee! Of course, Anndi would know her saints history. Me? I’m ignorant.
